These elusive creatures are more commonly seen than their lava dragon cousins, not due to rarity, but due to the fact, their movements are much slower. Studies are inconclusive as to why this is, but it is thought that their blood contains particles of ice as it travels through their bodies that causes their movements to seem lethargic.
These dragons inhabit areas that are way below freezing but can survive in less harsh conditions and can be seen hunting in more commonly visited areas. They are highly territorial and will defend themselves and their colonies to the death against an intruder and any kind of perceived threat. This makes it extremely difficult to study them accurately other than being able to watch them from distance.
It appears that the age of one of these dragons can be approximated by the number of icicles that have grown on their head. Though, there is some debate as to how many years one icicle represents in the dragon's life cycle.
